Alice's Bio
Standardized test preparation is my passion and, surprising to some, I have always loved it. I was the student who looked forward to tests because I saw them as puzzles to be conquered. I took two math classes at a time during seven of my eight semesters in high school instead of the usual "fun" electives because I was lucky enough to have amazing math teachers who were passionate about their subjects and engaged me. Instead of playing high school sports, I spent my time in mathematics competitions.
I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2003 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration from the Ross School of Business and then spent seven months in 2003 and 2004 volunteering in Mumbai, India, improving business structures and teaching English for Creative Handicrafts.
In early 2005, I found my calling at The Princeton Review in La Jolla, CA and have been teaching and tutoring full-time in San Diego ever since. In 2007, I was promoted to full-time teacher and tutor and soon was in charge of hiring and training teachers and tutors for The Princeton Review.
In 2011, I opened my own tutoring office so that I could cut out the middleman, lower my tutoring rates, and increase the quality of my materials. Over my tutoring career I have worked with over 1,000 students one-on-one. I’ve worked with high scorers (I’ve had students come in with a 35 seeking the elusive 36), and I’ve worked with low scorers (some starting in the 2nd percentile). I have experience students with learning disabilities, with students who fly in to tutor with me, and with competitive athletes. My typical student tutors for 2-4 months with me, and gets solid score improvement (my June 2019 ACT average score improvement for 16 hours or more of tutoring was 8 points.)

I have taken the official ACT, SAT, SAT Math II Subject Tests, GRE, and GMAT to stay up to date. Yes, I am strangely out of place as an adult at an official SAT or ACT, and no, I have probably never been "cool" in the typical "cool" sense.
My teaching style can be described as friendly and understanding, yet very demanding. I do not let my students get away with anything less than their best. Every student can improve their test scores if they are willing to work hard and learn new strategies. |

I am lucky to have found my calling in life and I’m thrilled to get to do what I do. I treat my students like family, and their success is my joy.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking to waterfalls or vistas, playing board games, scuba diving, doing any kind of art, and designing knitting patterns.
If you are interested in tutoring with me, please book a free introductory meeting.
